Pulling Off Purple

This is quite an unusual sight to be seeing. Me, wearing eyeshadow that isn't gold, or brown, or beige or grey - never. Better just pinch myself before continuing with this blogpost, because I am honestly not one to sport colourful makeup unless on the lips. Pout aside, I'm going to share how to gently incorporate some colour - purple in particular - into an everyday routine for all you fearful folk out there like moi.

Coloured eyeshadow, meet readers - readers, meet coloured eyeshadow. You guys might not have got along so fabulously in the past, but hey, here's to change!

First of all, there is a time and a place to wear intense colour in the eye makeup department. So be wary, ok? Instead of blasting out layers of electric blue shadow on the lids, ask yourself - how can I introduce this in a, errr, less-offensive way?

My top tip would be a thin line of colour along your lower or upper lash-line (or even both if you're feeling super adventurous) to add the perfect amount of flare. 'But how can I execute this lash-line of colour you speak of without appearing like a 5 yr old has attacked me with their crayon set?', I hear you ask. Easy peasy; just grab an angled or very precise shading brush and run a steady line along the perimeter of your eyes, trying to keep as close as possible to the lashes.

Intensely pigmented shadows or smooth cream shadows would be best for this little lash-line-trick. I've used a good ol' Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in 'Painted Purple' for easy application, lengthy wearing and outstanding colour pay-off. A bright purple like this can be pretty intimidating at first, but complements so many eye colours fabulously and will appear to be subtle yet stunning, making your eyes POP!
